Christopher M. Shea, PhD, LCSW, CST, CSAT, CPTT, CASAC

My scope of training and decades of practice includes interventions using schema therapy, parts work, addiction treatment, trauma-informed approaches including EMDR, attachment-based perspectives, relational therapy, and family systems therapy. I work well in assessing and adapting to the needs of clients, promoting a unified approach in nudging stuck parts out of self-defeating patterns.

Whether unburdening aspects of self or working with couples and families, our work would focus on neutralizing disruptive tendencies. Desired outcomes occur from a collaborative approach based on sturdy guidance, respect, and tracking agreed upon strategies during the course of our work. Relief usually comes within the first month and exponential growth thereafter based on a client’s level of engagement.

I take great care in treating difficulties related to addiction, grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, sexual issues, and personality challenges. I specialize in adjusting out-of-control behaviors including sexual compulsivity and sex addiction, substance use disorders, and other habituated difficulties. My skills in sex and relationship therapies promote healing for partners and couples affected by sexual betrayal as well as those experiencing relationship disharmony in general. My scope of practice also includes treating LGBTQ issues. Being a guide through adversity and loss, be it sudden or cumulative, is a primary objective in my collaborative approach with my clients.

Persistent difficulties hijack every aspect of our lives and are often deeply rooted in past adverse experiences. I help locate and treat the source of counterproductive mindsets and unrelenting behaviors that offer nothing more than diminishing returns and increased consequences. From there, a roadmap is constructed that will lead to emancipating skills and a healthier relationship to the present.
